Also called heliotrope, bloodstone is the traditional March birthstone.<\/p><\/div>\n
BLOODSTONE <\/span><\/strong>(bl\u016dd sto\u028an<\/span><\/span>) mainly comes from India, but it is also found in Brazil, Australia, China, and the US. It is a type of chalcedony, which is a mix of quartz and moganite<\/a>, with inclusions of red jasper or iron oxide. Its chemical composition is SiO2<\/sub> + Fe2<\/sub>O3<\/sub>. It has a hardness of between 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale.<\/p>\n The original name, heliotrope (meaning ‘sun turning’), was given to it by the Greeks. They believed that the red spots on the stone were linked to the light of the sun.<\/p>\n In the Middle Ages, bloodstone was renamed. It was said that it was first formed when drops of Christ’s blood fell upon stones at the base of the crucifix. This also led to bloodstone sometimes being referred to as “the Martyr’s stone<\/a>“.<\/p>\n It has been found carved into rings, seals, and pendants, and it has also long been used as an amulet against the evil eye.<\/p>\n Metaphysical Properties<\/span><\/p>\n Bloodstone helps to circulate energy throughout the body and to all the different chakras. It removes energy blockages, which can help for sparking creativity, motivation, confidence, and mental clarity.
